'the good, the bad and the ugly' of 2013...

...what started with TABLE NO. 21 [released on 4th Jan] ends with December's DHOOM 3!

The year indeed was the most satisfying in my lifetime. Where films like Ship Of Theseus & The Lunchbox - Movie, though they were less & will always be on the lighter side of the scale, restored our faith in cinema; some should be held accountable for demeaning other's constant effort to bring the respectful change in the scenario.

So, it's time to revisit Bollywood's contribution to the year 2013 with the best & worst...

'WE MADE CINEMA PROUD' OF 2013!
"THE LUNCHBOX is a 7-course meal for cinema-lovers with good appetite for quality cinema!"

"Debutante Anand Gandhi’s thought-provoking, soul-stirring, brain-stimulating philosophical drama SHIP OF THESEUS is rarest of the rare cinema."

"SHAHID is the need of the hour. It demands and shows guts to start a never-ending movement [if not on the roads, definitely in our heads] to bring change in the system by joining it & not wiping out its very existence"

'HOW CAN YOU MISS IT?' OF 2013!
"Move over instant love, experience intense love! Vikramaditya Motwane’s love saga LOOTERA is an old-school romance [all those Dev Anand classics if you remember] retold-redefined in the finest & superlative form of cinema."

"‘KAI PO CHE!’ is a very heartwarming film that takes the bro-mance concept to another level. You may not find regular song & dance sequences, you may not find many laugh-out-loud gags, you may also not find hard-to-believe unreal adventures of life but still it never goes run out on the spirit.

"BOMBAY TALKIES is not strictly experimental for classes, this is not formula based for masses…but a rare for all cinema lovers. Cinema has given you a lot, now its time to return the favor!"

'OHH, IT WASN'T BAD AT ALL' OF 2013!
"RAAM-LEELA is unapologetically sexy, passionate and bold in nature! A film that celebrates love and life through the most vibrant colours one can throw! A film that portrays cinema as a broad canvas to paint picturesque strokes of human emotions freely and at large"

"You can take out a Delhiite from Delhi but you can never the Delhi from a Delhiite...that's the attitude that holds you and keeps you glued to your seats throughout (though allegedly this statement is incorrect since it being a laugh riot experience, you are bound to jump over it most of the time) while watching Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's FUKREY"

'WE ARE HERE TOO' OF 2013!
"PRAGUE is trippy, witty, confident, engaging, innovative, astonishing and an exhilarating psychological ride you must take for a mind-bending experience and to trust the fact that this is the best period of indie cinema in India."

"Beautifully shot, smartly conceived, nicely written and confidently performed by first-timer Shadab Kamal & the immensely impressive and bold Shilpa Shukla make B A PASS an honest effort that touches you with its bravura but brutal portrayal of sex, seduction, depression, desperation, dejection, oppression and betrayal."

SHORTS: Beautifully shot, brilliantly executed concepts, perfectly created tone to suit each story differently and accordingly! This presentation is an actor’s delight, filmmaker’s pride and viewer’s choice. I just wish I could see a time when every Friday I have something like this. Overwhelming Experience!"

'100 CR! REALLY? HOW?? WHY??' OF 2013!
"There are no reason that can justify GRAND MASTI's viewing except you are a sex-starved, low-IQed, male chauvinist who sees women as sex-object & doesn’t love/care/respect even their ladies at home. I regret watching it and very sorry as I didn’t think I would be also reviewing a soft-porn someday"

"In any 'INDIAN RAILWAY' experience, the bigger test of your patience comes in when your journey starts but before reaching its destination, stops like the pulse-rate of a dead man for literally no logical reasons. It’s unbearable. Frequent travelers can vouch for that. Same goes with Rohit Shetty’s CHENNAI EXPRESS. It’s long-predictable-never been there but certainly seen that before action entertainer!"

"Watch it if only the charming looks of Deepika Padukone & the cuteness of Ranbir Kapoor can make you look at the screen for hours with unblinking eyes [in other words if you are a hardcore fan], other wise YJHD is a whole 2 hour 41 min of tiresomely predictable movie experience. Don’t dare take this journey! It’s not adventurous, it’s suicidal!"

                                                                                        'WHAT THE HELL?' OF 2013!
"150 min of mind-numbing melodrama, lifeless writing, hammering action and creepy comedy! ENTERTAINMENT IS DEFINITELY AT STAKE with HIMMATWALA"

"ZANJEER is a sloppy-shoddy-shaky attempt that can only be dumped down as a trash. Watching it could make you feel like torturing yourself for all the sins you have been doing all these years."

"When, in the very first half, people of all ages sitting around you in a multiplex auditorium start giggling, chattering, commenting, questioning and mocking on the relativity of the film & the sensibility of the filmmaker, one must learn that that something has gone wrong while trying to create something impressive. Manish Tiwary’s ISSAQ is one such shameful effort."

'PAISA-VASOOL' OF 2013!

"Well, I don’t want to waste any minute to pronounce Aanand L. Rai’s RAANJHANAA one of the best movies this year. It makes me really restless as a viewer [ you could actually feel the beats, my heart is skipping in excitement] after experiencing so much good things coming in place for this simple-rustic yet very unpredictable-very ‘matter-of-fact’ romantic drama that rides on the brilliance of music, applause-worthy performances, writing with an eye to look beyond detailing and an extremely skilled direction."
